God, the characters, especially Bella, were annoying in this one. It felt like nothing happened in this book despite how big it was. It was the same arguements over and over. I enjoyed getting backstory on Jasper and Rosalie, but that was about it.
Maximum Ride: Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports by James Patterson 405 pgs read June 2-3 rating: 6/10
It was enjoyable, but I'm a little disappointed with it as well. I just kept thinking, "This is what we've been building towards? That's it?" I also keep forgetting how young the characters are.
The Pact by Jodi Picoult 496 pgs read May 11-15 rating: 7/10
I think the only parent I liked was Emily's dad. I wasn't really clear on if Emily had repressed what happened to her or not. I think she did, which make sense why she never told anyone and didn't really know why she was feeling the way she did.
Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult 455 pgs read March 16-19 rating 8/10
The subject of school shootings is something that fascinates and terrifies me at the same time. I found this book engrossing, but there were no real likeable characters. I'm not sure if I buy the big twist revealed during the trial.
Grave Sight by Charlaine Harris 293 pgs read March 11-12 rating: 6/10
It's an awesome premise: a girl who was struck by lightening and now can find dead bodies and know how they died. However, the execution was bad. The writing was not good and parts of the story were predictable.
Such a Pretty Girl by Laura Wiess 212 pgs read March 9-11 rating: 5/10
The book spanned a very short time. Like, a week or so. It started out pretty gripping then got all weirdly religious and ended with a deus ex machina.
Boy Next Door by Meg Cabot 374 pgs Feb 20-24 rating: 5/10
This was just okay. It was a little weird to have the entire book told just through emails. It was kinda predictable and I spent most of the time just waiting for the secret to come out.
Peeps by Scott Westerfeld 310 pgs read Feb 11-12 rating: 6/10
I've read three books by Westerfeld and this is the first one I actually enjoyed, although it did get a little out there at the end. I liked Cal and Lace. I liked the whole peeps thing. I was even looking forward to the sequel until I found out it wasn't about Cal and Lace but some new characters.
Perfect Match by Jodi Picoult 352 pgs read Feb 5-10 rating: 6/10
Jodi Picoult's novels are always engaging as you're reading them. However, a lot of her characters are annoying. And the endings always seem to be a cop out. But that doesn't stop me from reading them.
The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory 663 pgs read Jan 29 - Feb 4 rating: 8/10
Half of me wants to dismiss this book as VC Andrews style historical fiction, but the other half of me is utterly fascinated. It's a really long book, but completely engrossing. There's sex, scheming, incest, homosexualty, betrayal, beheadings. This book has it all. This book got me into the history of Henry VIII and the Boleyn family.
